All practitioners start with our 2 Day Foundation training, to introduce them to the Solihull Approach and how it can be used in their daily work on a one-to-one basis.
This training aims to increase emotional health and well-being, as well as introducing delegates to the developmental effects of childhood trauma in relation to working with children and their families. (More information on the impact of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) is included in the Solihull Approach Advanced Training 'Understanding trauma', available online.)

Aim of training: To introduce managers to the Solihull Approach model and apply it to the tasks of management.
Example content: Brain development, introduction to the Solihull Approach model, activities to enable managers to apply the model to their role, trauma and management, observation exercise and practice, applying the model.

Four Work Discussion sessions of 2 hours each. There will be a maximum of 12 practitioners in each session, to allow for interactive discussion. The sessions will take place every 3 or 4 weeks.
Aim of training: To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model as applied to working with adult clients. To introduce practitioners to Trauma, make links between relational trauma and mental health diagnoses, and understand how the Solihull Approach model is relevant to supporting service users who have experienced trauma in their lives.
Example content: Introduction to the theories central to the Solihull Approach model; brain development; trauma and the stress response; neurology and trauma, recognising trauma; supporting recovery from trauma; observation exercise and practice, applying the model.
Aim of training: To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model as applied to working antenatally with parents and families.
Example content: Antenatal brain development, introduction to the Solihull Approach model, getting to know the resource pack, (which includes information on a wide range of issues such as working with teenage parents), observation exercise and practice, applying the model.

Aim of training: To introduce Solihull Approach trained delegates to how to facilitate the Solihull Approach 'Understanding your child's behaviour' group for parents.

Aim of training:
To introduce Solihull Approach trained delegates to how to facilitate the Solihull Approach 5-week 'Journey to Parenthood: Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth and your baby' antenatal group for parents.

Aim of training:
To train cascade trainers in order to create a critical mass of practitioners who are trained as facilitators of the Solihull Approach Antenatal Parenting Group.

Aim of training:
To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model on Day 1 and then on Day 2 to train them to facilitate the 5-week 'Journey to Parenthood: Understanding pregnancy, labour, birth and your baby'.

Aim of training:
To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model as applied to working with babies, young children and their families in an Early Years setting and link it to the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage.

Aim of training:
To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model as applied to working with babies, young children and their families in an Early Years setting and link it to the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage.

Aim of training: To introduce practitioners to the Solihull Approach model as applied to working with children in foster care, foster carers, adopted children and adoptive parents.
Example content: Baby brain development, the effects of abuse and neglect on the brain, introduction to the the Solihull Approach model, getting to know the resource pack, (which includes information on the issues found in traumatised children such as bullying, sleep problems, mood disorder and depressions), observation exercise and practice, applying the model.
Aim of training: To introduce Solihull Approach trained delegates to how to facilitate the Solihull Approach 'Understanding your child's behaviour' group for parents.

Aim of training: To train trainers so that they can cascade, as part of their work, the Parenting Group Facilitators' training to other local practitioners - so that those practitioners may facilitate the 10-week parenting group.

Aim of training: To train cascade trainers in order to create a critical mass of practitioners who are trained as facilitators of the Solihull Approach Postnatal Parenting Group.

Aim of training: To introduce Solihull Approach trained delegates to how to facilitate the Solihull Approach 6-week 'Understanding your baby' postnatal group for parents. To support parents in their relationship with their baby in the first months after birth.
Example content: Applying the Solihull Approach model to the process of running a group, introduction to the Facilitators' Manual for the Solihull Approach 6-week 'Understanding your baby' postnatal group for parents, practising running the activities. Content of the group includes understanding different types of cry, feeding and weaning, sleeping patterns etc

Aim of training: To introduce Solihull Approach trained delegates to how to facilitate the Solihull Approach 8-week 'Understanding your baby' Postnatal Plus group for parents. To support parents in their relationship with their baby in the first months after birth, where there are difficulties.

Content of the group: This Manual enables practitioners to facilitate the Postnatal Plus Parenting Group version of 'Understanding your baby', for mothers and fathers with relationship difficulties with their baby and for mothers with postnatal depression. Session 1: Understanding your baby: Helping you think about how you and your baby are feeling Session 2: Understanding your baby's brain development and communications Session 3: Understanding your baby's communication: crying Session 4: Understanding your baby's rhythms and developing healthy sleep patterns Session 5: Understanding your baby: Feeding Session 6: Understanding your baby: Play and development Session 7: Understanding your baby: Being separate from your baby Session 8: Understanding your baby: Review and moving forward To run this group you need to have completed a 2 Day Foundation Training and a Parenting Group Facilitators training.

Aim of training: To refresh the training of trainers to deliver the Solihull Approach 2 Day Foundation Training.

Aim of training: The aim is to: • Restore (the capacity to think) • Protect (relationships, and practitioners’ capacity to cope) • Prevent (escalation of a problem, burnout, high turnover)
Example content: The training includes the RPP supervisory framework, the SARS Practice Guide, a sprinkling of neuroscience, helpful tools for your Supervisor’s Toolkit, and space to reflect on your own practice and the local picture.

Aim of training:
To build on the 2 Day Foundation training to extend knowledge of brain development across the age range of antenatally to adolescence, including mirror neurones.

How the brain develops across the age range, the interaction with the environment, the importance of relationships for brain development, the links with containment and reciprocity, an introduction to mirror neurones.

Aim of training: To introduce all staff in a school to the Solihull Approach model, providing a shared language and a shared understanding of children in school. This training has added value if the school is running the group for parents and/or the workshops for parents, so staff and parents have a shared understanding. The training links with Mindfulness.
