^Fostering, Adoption & Social Work 2 Day Foundation training

Training

To book a 'closed' training just for your team, please ring 0121 296 4448 or email solihull.approach@uhb.nhs.uk and we will create a bespoke order form for you. For individuals, please go to 'Book an individual training place'.

All practitioners start with our 2 Day Foundation training, to introduce them to the Solihull Approach and how it can be used in their daily work on a one-to-one basis.

You MUST have a copy of an appropriate resource pack (i.e. First Five Years resource pack if you work with young children, School Years resource pack if you work with school aged children, Antenatal resource pack if you work antenatally or the Fostering and Adoption resource pack) for the 2 Day Foundation training via Zoom.

The Solihull Approach offers a 2 Day Foundation training for groups of professionals in the UK and internationally.

The Solihull Approach training is designed for any practitioner working with babies, young children and school-aged children, young people and their families to support the use of the Solihull Approach from any agency.

This course is for Social Workers, Looked After Children teams, Adoption teams, practitioners working in Safeguarding teams and with troubled families, etc. This training includes more on attachment than the other Foundation training.

The training is for 12 people at a time. Individuals can attend a training run by the Solihull Approach Head Office. There are two weeks between Day 1 and Day 2 to enhance theory into practice.

The Fostering & Adoption Resource Pack covers a variety of issues, including: the effects of abuse and neglect on the brain, bullying, sleep problems, mood disorder and depressions, self-harm, bedwetting and soiling, preventing and managing challenging behaviour.

You will need a relevant Solihull Approach Resource Pack for each professional. This encourages further reading about the model and its application, enhancing theory into practice. The Resource Packs include photocopiable/downloadable handouts for parents.

We have found that in order to support professionals continued use of the Solihull Approach and to move theory into practice, it is vital to put into place a plan for ongoing support before the training begins, see Embedding the Solihull Approach. Many areas have found a variety of ways of providing support, see Solihull Approach in Use.

Some areas put on their own series of 4 Work Discussion sessions after the 2 Day Foundation training or you can commission them from us for an area or individuals can attend one that we put on.

Training is available so that practitioners can then cascade the 2 Day Foundation training in their own area. For further information see ‘Train the Trainer (Foundation)’.

Trainings can be tailored for the age group or area with which the delegates work.
